The Sunday Post (#17) and Showcase Sunday (#3)
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea and inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren. They're a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog, highlight our newest books and see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, or bought.

Top ten Tuesday (#10) - opening lines
Book of the month - July 2013
My week in books (#3) - bookish ice cream flavours, 15 classics you should, tips on marketing your blog and more.
Books I added to my shelves:
From the library:
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich
Paper Towns by John Green
From a PR:
This is a coffee table book about the history of Centre Point, a massive building in London, on Oxford Street/Tottenham Court Road. The authors have picked a different subject for each "floor" (chapter), and explore that subject and what it was like at the time Centre Point was built.
Won:
The Universe Versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence, published by Hodder, won through a Twitter competition run by @HodderFiction.
Red Winter by Dan Smith, published by Orion, through a competition run by Lindsay at The Little Reader Library. Thanks Lindsay!
What have you been up to this week?

I've heard great things about The Universe Versus Alex Woods, really hope you enjoy it :)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend :)

My Showcase Sunday if you'd like a look :)
I'd heard of the book before, but didn't know too much about it. The plot seems quirky and right up my alley.

I need to look into Neil Gaiman's book and Notorious Nineteen wasn't bad. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteBy now, the Stephanie Plum books are a bit predictable, but I like that they still make me laugh. They're like a comfort blanket!
DeleteSarah
I really enjoyed Paper Towns and I look forward to Neil Gaiman's books a lot, they seem great!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
My haul
I've been remiss in not checking out anything by John Green apart from The Fault in Our Stars for this long.

I really like the Stephanie Plum series, but I was a little let down with 19. I'm just ready for Stephanie to pick one of the guys and for the series to wrap up. 20 books is a lot to continue through without any definitive decisions. I hope you enjoy it though.

Yes, it is getting a little repetitive, but the series still makes me laugh. I'm less interested in the Morelli/Stephanie/Ranger love triangle than I used to be. I like all the side characters more - Lula is a particular favourite!

Ooo, the new Neil Gaiman book. I've heard some great things about it and am really curious myself (although I'm waiting for a paperback copy!). Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things too, and I had to wait more than a month on the reserve list at the library before it was my turn for this!

Congrats on the wins. Enjoy them. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteJenea @ Books Live Forever's Sunday Post
Thanks, it's always fun to win stuff.

Ooh, a John Green book! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have never heard of The Universe versus Alex Woods... but that is an amazing title. It kind of made me laugh!
Great haul this week :)
Emilly @ Reader Rising
It is a great title, I hope it bodes well.

I am quite curious about Red Winter and love all the new additions this week. The coffee table book sounds really cool. Enjoy them all and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe coffee table book was an unexpected surprise when I returned to work after a week off, and I love it.
DeleteYou too.

ReplyDeleteI like the coffee table book, looks cool. I wanted to read the Neil Gaiman book but people keep telling me it's scary. Hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCricket@ Little Library Muse
I found Coraline by Neil Gaiman really terrifying, but fun at the same time. He writes really well, and I figure if children can cope, I should be able to as well!

I am looking forward to reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane myself. I look forward to seeing what you think of it. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI hope to get to it in the next couple of weeks, so will let you know.

Oh gosh, I used to be obsessed with the Stephanie Plum novels. When I was in a college, my roommate and I had a running joke that every photo taken in our room (and there were a lot of them) you could always see a Janet Evanovich book in the background. I am a little behind on the series, now though. I've read up to 17 I think.
ReplyDeleteOh and Paper Towns is great. Yay John Green.
I was really obsessed for a while as well. I now just pick them up if I see them and am in the mood. I don't think it matters if you've not read them in a while, I'm sure you can guess what happens!
DeleteIf Paper Towns is even a tenth as good as The Fault in Our Stars, I will love it.
Sarah
Lovely selection of books you got this week! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThank you.

I love John Green but haven't read that title yet, will have to look into it. And congrats on winning The Universe According to Alex Woods, it looks really good!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll let you know what The Universe Versus Alex Woods is like.

Nice week for you.
ReplyDeleteENJOY!!!

Wow, lucky you! Paper Towns is INCREDIBLE and my favourite John Green book to date (yes, I've read all of them)! And The Ocean at the End of the Lane... I am SO incredibly jealous... I am DYING to read that book ahhh... it's never in my library! :)
ReplyDeleteI really need to read everything John Green has ever committed to paper.
DeleteAs I said above, it took ages for my turn on the reserve list for The Ocean at the End of the Lane to come round.
Sarah
Oh, congrats on winning! :) The Universe Versus Alex Woods is on my TBR list as well. Can't wait to hear what you think!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know, I think it's got lots of promise.

Ooh I hope you enjoy reading Gaiman's newest work. I haven't had much luck with his work in the past, but I'm hoping to give it another try with this one. And congrats on winning two books. Happy reading!
