The Sunday Post (#18) and Showcase Sunday (#4)
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea and inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren. They're a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog, highlight our newest books and see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, or bought.
Book stuff this week on Girl!Reporter
Top 10 Tuesday (#11) - books I wish could have had sequels
The Book of Fires by Jane Borodale (review)
My week in books (#4) - gorgeous Harry Potter covers, a dystopian fiction infographic and more
A to Z bookish survey
Books I added to my shelves:
Bought:
The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer.
I take the jacket off books when I read them, so as not to spoil them!
For review:
Sounds Like London - 100 years of black music in the capital by Lloyd Bradley
1,000 things to do in London from Time Out - this one is not new, it's been sitting on my desk at work for months and months, but we had an office move so I brought it home.
What's your news for the week?

The Land of Stories looks so pretty under the dust cover!
ReplyDeleteIt's got a really gorgeous spine, I love the gold, which is kind of an inlay (not sure if that's the right word) as opposed to just print.

Great haul! Colfer's book looks so good, I want to read that one as well.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy all the reads!
My haul
My DESIGNS blog
It's a gorgeous book, with lovely illustrations. I'm finding it a little on the long side for what it is, but I'm a fan of Colfer, so I will forgive a lot!

The Land of Stories is a beautiful bounded book. I love those sort of things! Oh and the smell of the pages of new books like that. Hehe! Great haul. Enjoy all your reads! :)

The Land Of Stories spine is gorgeous! I love nice spines. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSo do I. It's always nice taking off the dust jacket to find a nice book underneath as well.

Sounds like you've had a good week. I also take the jacket covers off when I'm reading. Can't mess them up! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSandy @ Somewhere Only We Know
I agree. I'm quite OCD about books!

The illustrator, Brandon Dorman, is a bit of a genius, right?

What a beautiful cover on Land of Stories! And I'm jealous of the physical books, lately all my books have been eBooks or audio books and I'm starting to feel like I need to do a half-price books run...

Have a great week :)
Berls @ Fantasy is More Fun
I can't get into ebooks, no matter how hard I try. I think I'll always be a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to books.
DeleteAnd not to encourage you or anything, but yes, go on a book run...

Great haul! It's so funny how Chris Colfer is going to be signing in my home area in Cali! His book looks great :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
My Haul: http://wwwthebookshelves.blogspot.com/2013/08/new-to-shelves-31-one-before-i-head-back.html
I'm so jealous. He flew across the pond for a signing here, but I ended up not going since the queue was 500 people long and a six hour wait was involved!

I take jackets of hardcovers too as to not to spoil them, and how gorgeous is that spine? Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMy Showcase Sunday :)
It's beautiful. I love when publishers make an effort to make covers under book jackets look special too.
DeleteSArah
The Land of Stories looks great. The spine is gorgeous. I usually take off dust jackets, too. I hate how the slide down when you hold them. Happy reading!

Yes, or they crease weirdly because they move while you're reading. I like my books nice and neat.

The Land of Stories looks amazing! Such a beautiful book. It's been so long since I've gone to the actual bookstore. Perhaps I need to do that more often.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

I love mooching around bookshops. You never know what you're going to find, and I always find bookshops are really calming too.
DeleteSarah
I take the jackets off, too. :) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt seems a lot of us do! Thanks, you too.

Nice set of books you have this week. I want to read the Land of Stories, well I think it's one I'd listen to. Have a great week! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteChris Colfer does the audiobooks himself, and although I haven't heard them, I have heard they're quite good. I hope you get the chance to listen.

You should. I finished it last night and thought it was a good read. Keep an eye out for my review!

I don't normally judge a book by it's cover but The Land of Stories would definitely catch my eye for a read. Have a great week.
