The Sunday Post (#38) and Showcase Sunday (#24)
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea and inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren. They're a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog, highlight our newest books and see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, or bought.

Added to my shelves
Last week for work I went to a presentation by Penguin Random House UK on their 2014 highlights, so I came home with quite a few books...
Em and the Big Hoom by Jerry Pinto
Half Bad by Sally Green
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
Popular by Maya Van Wagenen
A Song for Issy Bradley by Carys Bray
Munich Airport by Greg Baxter
The Chimp Paradox by Dr Steve Peters
Thrive by Arianna Huffington
Who is Tom Ditto by Danny Wallace
Mary Berry Cooks
Succession by Livi Michael
Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey
Love, Nina by Nina Stibbe
The Moon is Down by John Steinbeck
One Step To Far by Tina Seskis
A Delicate Truth by John le Carre
A Girl Called Jack by Jack Monroe (not pictured because it's in my kitchen)
Phew!
I'm looking forward to them all, but especially Thrive because I loved Lean In; Half Bad, because I've heard it's so good; ditto for Elizabeth is Missing; and Popular, which is by a 15-year-old girl (!) and is about her experiences of trying to become cool after she finds a 1950s guide to popularity. I've read Love, Nina (look out for a review soon) already, and both the cookbooks are pretty fantastic.
I also got sent a few other books, including a copy of Attachments by Rainbow Rowell.
What did you add to your shelves?

How funny, I went to Penguin's Blogger Night on Wednesday and got some of the same books there as you! Not quite as many though, but still. I love the look of Popular (can't believe the author is just 15, woah) and Mary Berry books are always wonderful. Hope you enjoy them all!
ReplyDeleteThey gave four bags of books to take home, which I managed to rearrange into two after getting rid of a few I already had proofs of and packing everything in really tightly!
DeleteI can't believe the girl who wrote Popular is 15 either, it makes me feel really inadqeuate.
Who doesn't love Mary Berry?!

Awesome haul! I feel like everyone got Half Bad but me :D I hope you enjoy it as much as others did, and like the rest of these as well :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! You can have my copy after I've read it. I noticed in your post you're heading to London (I assume for Book Fair), so I can give it to you then?

I will be there! Ah you're too kind! If I won't have it by then (and I just might crack real soon!) I'd love you for ever.
DeleteNo problem, just let me know here or on Twitter.

Wow! Great haul! I love Shirley Jackson though it's been ages since I've read any. I've been wanting to try one of Mary Barry's cookbooks but haven't yet. I got Attachments as well! Hopefully it's good!
ReplyDeleteI'd not heard of Shirley Jackson before I got this particular book, but it sounds amazing. I have high hopes.
DeleteThanks for stopping by.

I can add you to the long list of people I've heard raving about Half Bad!

Ohh, Half Bad! I thought that one was a bit meh, but a lot of people really loved that one, so maybe you'll be one of them! :D
ReplyDeleteI hope so, and I hope that my expectations aren't too high!
