Book of the month - July 2013

It was tough to choose a book this month, because I read a few really, really great ones.

After Tomorrow by Gillian Cross almost took the top spot, but I finished Gone Girl right at the beginning of July, so that pipped After Tomorrow to the post.

I loved everything about Gone Girl, from the writing style, to the pacing, to the plot. It had me on the edge of my seat, and I just couldn't work out where Gillian Flynn was going to go next with her novel. This is a grand description, but Gone Girl, in my opinion, is a modern masterpiece. If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for?!

What's the best book you read in July?

  1. Crown of Midnight. Without a shadow of a doubt. I adored Gone Girl too :) enough to go out and instantly buy Flynn's other two books!

    1. Crown of Midnight was my favourite book for June. I love it so much, but now comes the long wait for the final novel in the series.

And I bought two other Flynn books this weekend as well!

  2. Agreed. I loved this book so much. I read it when it first came out and have spent the past year telling anybody who will listen that they need to pick it up. I think Boy Nobody was my favorite book in July. It isn't perfect, but it was so quickly paced and pretty fun and sometimes I just need brain candy like that.

    1. I wish I'd read it earlier, but alas, that's just the way it is.

I've not heard of Boy Nobody, I'll have to check it out.

  3. I have read mixed reviews for Gone Girl. It seems that it is one of those books that you either really like or really don't. I am most definitely going to read it.
The best book that I read in July is The Help by Kathryn Stocket, hands down. I am so glad that I finally picked it up.

    1. Gone Girl is really difficult to review without spoiling! I'm not surprised at the mixed reviews, since the central characters can be divisive.

I have The Help to read on my bookshelf. I really liked the film, and have high hopes for the book.
