The Sunday Post (#16) and Showcase Sunday (#2)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea and inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren. They're a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog, highlight our newest books and see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, or bought.

Books I added to my shelves:

Just two this week - Sharp Objects and Dark Places, both by Gillian Flynn. I loved Gone Girl, but I'm going to have to be good and not start these until I've read a few of the other books sitting on my shelves unread.

What have you been up to this week?

  1. I seem to be skipping all the big trends in publishing, Gone Girl just doesn't appeal to me and now there seem to be loads of "similar" titles coming out.

    1. Gone Girl sat on my bookshelf for months before I finally got round to reading it. I was a bit worried it wouldn't live up to the hype, but it was sooo good!

    1. Me too, the premise of each one looks really good, and her writing was just brilliant in Gone Girl, so I have high hopes.

    1. It's so compelling, isn't it? I found the flow good, and had a really difficult time putting Gone Girl down. I can't wait to read the others, but I must!

  7. I loved Gone Girl, too. I've read Sharp Objects, which I liked, but it is unrelentingly dark. I still need to read Dark Places. Per your comment on my StS: I DO feel like book covers just keep getting prettier and prettier. I think there are just so many competing publishers out there in the YA market right now and they have to find ways to pull readers in. I love it. There are few things I like more than a beautiful cover. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks for the warning about Dark Places, I shall bear in mind not to read it when I'm already stressed and down!

You're spot on about publishers, I guess we are all judging books by their covers now.

  8. I have both these books as well, and Gone Girl, too. I got them all after I heard how good they are, and I plan to start them soon because I am really curious.
    Happy reading!

    1. I didn't realise she'd written so much until after Gone Girl, so I'm excited to read her other work. I hope you enjoy Gone Girl as much as I did.

  10. I've not read any other Flynn novels but when I get some spare reading time I'm going to have to check these out as I did enjoy 'Gone Girl' a lot. Enjoy your books and thanks so much for stopping by my blog :)
